The Cumulative Copyright Catalog for Motion Pictures, 1912 to 1939 shows a record for The Lost World as being released by First National Pictures, Inc., Jan. 24, 1925. A formal renewal was supposed to be filed 28 years after the first copyright notice; yet none was found in the US Copyright Catalog for 1953. The movie’s copyright was never renewed and thus it fell into the public domain.
